Rooftop solar technology enables homeowners and multifamily buildings to generate their own power, save money and reduce environmental impact all at once. Large-scale solar adoption will create a more resilient, climate-friendly and people-centered energy system for our city.
Here Comes Solar is a not-for-profit network that envisions a New York City where residential solar is accessible, affordable, and incredibly common. Neighborhood by neighborhood, we are working to make this vision a reality by helping homeowners and multifamily buildings realize their rooftop solar projects.
As energy costs rise for NYC co-ops and condos, the advantage of going solar becomes stronger. But the task of making the benefits, costs and process of doing so obvious to boards and residents can be a major challenge that solar contractors are often reluctant to take on. HCS fills this gap by supplying interested residents (‘champions’) with the information and building-specific analysis they need to communicate effectively to their boards and fellow residents. Once interest is established, HCS helps boards solicit and review proposals from experienced, local contractors, enabling buildings to ultimately move forward with projects.
Here's how it works.
HCS connects with and supports internal champions within co-ops and condos who are committed to bringing solar to their buildings. We help them recruit and organize fellow residents, and provide building-specific analysis on costs, benefits and performance that can build broad, informed support for going solar.
Is solar an attractive option for your multifamily building? We will find out for you for free using both satellite analysis and onsite technical assessment.
HCS also leverages its connections with building performance professionals to identify energy efficiency and conservation opportunities that can further increase savings and enhance the economic benefits of solar.
Co-ops and condos that have viable properties and are serious about investing can use our online platform SunBlock to solicit proposals from multiple certified and vetted solar contractors at the same time.
HCS brings its sector experience to help building representatives review and compare proposals.
After a contract is signed, there are a number of stages that have to occur before a solar system is installed and delivering value for a multifamily co-op or condo.
HCS makes certain that building representatives are informed and prepared for each step along the the way. If you encounter any barriers, we apply our extensive experience and connections in the sector to address them. Until a real solar system is up on a roof saving your building money, we’ve got your back.
When homeowners pursue solar at the same time as a group, they can achieve more competitive pricing than if they went it alone. HCS helps neighbors determine the solar viability of their homes, form groups and collectively solicit proposals from vetted, local contractors.
Here's how it works.
What does it mean to own a solar system in New York City? What are the benefits? What will you save? How much will it cost? Is your roof the right size?
If you are interested in going solar you will need to answers to a lot of questions. We can provide all of them. For free.
Not every home in NYC can go solar. Our experienced staff will determine if yours can. We combine satellite analysis with onsite technical assessment to establish if solar is a viable option for your home. This service is entirely free.
And because HCS conducts and documents this analysis, your future solar contractor won't have to. The result? More competitive pricing.
When individual homeowners join together and engage contractors as a group, they increase their negotiating power to get the best deal possible.
HCS connects individual homeowners in the same area to form small groups of 3-10 members, and guides them through a streamlined solicitation process that is convenient, empowering, social and fun.
We help groups request and review proposals from multiple certified and vetted solar contractors at the same time using our online platform SunBlock.
SunBlock automatically notifies registered installers of new group opportunities, and enables them to seamlessly access individual homeowner data and submit proposals, which group members can then review and compare. Convenience, transparency and competition all in one platform.
