Description: Community Power is a cooperatively-managed community solar project where local households of low- and moderate-incomes will share solar arrays installed on NYCHA developments in their community. As a community solar project, the systems will be “shared” by multiple households—the energy generated by the system will be converted to solar credits on participating household’s bills. All participants will also receive membership into the co-op managing the project, the New York City Community Energy Co-op. Community Power also provided solar installation training to 25 NYCHA residents, 15 of whom were hired by the solar installer, Accord Power, to work on the project’s construction. The project is currently under construction and recruiting low to moderate-income households in Upper Manhattan and Brooklyn.
